Counting former Disney animators among its founders, TAIKO studios is a film studio based in Los Angeles and Wuhan, China. Their first project—the short film One Small Step—is currently being screened in film festivals. The film follows a young Chinese-American girl who dreams of being an astronaut. “One Small Step is our love letter to everyone who chased that impossible dream and the family that supported them through it,” co-director Andrew Chesworth says.
Composer Steve Horner scored the film, and he describes how music enhances character development. "We used the same melodies or variations on melodies for both [daughter and father], but we chose a different voice which is a perfect analog to what is going on," says Horner. "They're unique but bound together."
